We thought you’d like to know a little more about how we work to get a better insight as to whether working with us would be a good move

We like to regard ourselves as a “Functional” type fitness training company. A lot of trainers use this term nowadays but what does it actually mean?

In simple terms, we like to use methods that are similar to the way we are designed to function. This includes using multiple joints and muscle groups at the same time or in the same sequence of moves. Sitting at a Pec Deck or Lat Pull Down machine just doesn’t seem right. Why sit down to push and pull when you would rarely do that in the “real world?”

No, when training with us, you will become functional so that when you go about your daily activities whether at home or at work, your ability to do those tasks will be enhanced

So let’s go through a typical scenario of what you would expect from working with us

First off, you will go through our Functional movement Assessment or Kinetic Chain Assessment. The KCA  is probably the most in-depth assessment any personal training company will carry out in the UK, if the world! At time of writing, Martin is one of only maybe twenty trainers worldwide to reach KCA Specialist Level 3. The KCA looks at your posture, movement, neuromuscular integrity, arthrokinetic function, your diet, hormonal issues affecting weight loss, lifestyle, stress levels and of course, your nutrition

No push ups to failure or treadmill endurances tests here!

The KCA takes around 60-90 minutes to complete. We then compile a thorough report (10 pages +) that you receive to browse through at your leisure. We then work out what you NEED achieve you goals. As one of our mentors often says, “if you’re not assessing, you’re guessing”

We then arrange your first real session

Your sessions will begin with on our Therapy couch where we will decompress your joints and activate muscles that are not firing correctly. This is extremely hands on so get used to being pushed and prodded – all in a nice way

You will then move on to our MobilityMax routine and this will get your body functioning correctly in preparation for what you may perceive as real training. You will be expected to carry out MobilityMax as regular homework

If your level of fitness is low or you have limitations, you will then go through our Movement Pathway programme. This is a non-impact, slow and controlled movement routine that will get your muscles working more efficiently without the intensity of traditional workouts

If your movement is fine and you have minimal functional issues, you can then progress onto some functional training. But what does that entail?

This depends on your goal(s). Most of our clients come to us for Fat Loss so we will get you moving weights or using bodyweight but fairly intensely. This may include several short bouts of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). The sort of stuff you can expect is squats, push ups, lunges, mountain climbers, but certainly no neck and back damaging sit ups or crunches!

You will follow our ReSHAPE protocol to maximise your potential. This works on Regeneration (rest & recovery), Strength, High Intensity Interval Training, Affirmations (goal achievement), Progressions, and Energy enhancement. You will also integrate our ALINE principles into your programme. This takes in Alignment, Lengthen, Integrated training, Neuromuscular efficiency and Endocrine function

The session ends with some stretching but will either be performed on the studio floor or couch where WE will perform the stretches on you – just lie back and relax!

If you are more advanced to begin with or your goals are more strength based, you will probably start using some of our equipment. This includes Kettlebells, Power Bags, Ropes or even our Olympic Bars and free weights

So there you have it. Just a sample of what to expect from working with us. Of course, we work differently with every client because as the term suggests, we offer Personal Training not off the shelf for everyone
